It's a bit tricky to get down a good thick coat and getting it totally level and even and I'd highly recommend taping out 50 sq. ft. sections in order to get the coverage just right. With the sealer and two coats the surface is pretty smooth but I'll probably apply a 3rd coat in the near future (after wet sanding to take down the imperfections) which should make things quite a bit smoother. *exotic hardwoord flooring - http://www.br111.com/ *cork - http://www.naturalcork.com *finishes - http://www.waterlox.com *http://www.tritonwoods.com *random orbit floor sander - http://www.u-sand.com/ * Unfortunately, after renting this unit I've discovered that it is obscenely slow at sanding and very expensive to operate. Working on a oak floor (~400sq ft.) in good condition took over 12 hours of sanding to get it to a finished state ready for covering. The place I rented from charged ~$1 for each sheet of sandpaper (Kingspore 6" circular disc w/velcro backing) and I spent over $80 in sandpaper costs on the project. I'd recommend either a standard vibrating sander if the floor is in good shape or a drum sander (with it's associated drawbacks) for a floor in anything in worse shape. *this old house #2125 - vinyl mat flooring ===== Contractors ===== Acousti-Level *Pat Ravin *503-648-3143 ====== HVAC ====== ===== Boilers ===== ==== Over Pressure ==== * http://forum.doityourself.com/archive/index.php/t-382677.html * http://forum.doityourself.com/archive/index.php/t-328824.html ==== Munchkin ==== * Condensate Neutralizer - N1100 * http://www.2hsc.com/munchkin/sections/commercial/vwh_broch_man.html * DIY Neutralizer * http://forum.doityourself.com/boilers-steam-hot-water-systems/371842-how-neutralize-boiler-condensate.html * backflow preventer * Watts 9D-M3 (1/2") * http://www.pexsupply.com/Watts-0063190-9D-M3-1-2-IPS-Backflow-Preventer-1696000-p ==== Other ==== *Viessmann (Vitodens 200) *http://www.viessmann-us.com/ *http://www.crownboiler.com *Buderus *http://www.buderus.net *De Dietrich *http://www.macna-dedietrich.com/mdra01.html *http://www.dunkirk.com/products_quantum_leap.asp *Top rated gas boilers *http://www.aceee.org/consumerguide/topboil.htm#gboilh43 *high efficiency boiler *http://www.lochinvar.com/product.asp?cat=B&cls=ALL&prod=KBN080&ln=KBN# ===== Contractors ===== Anctil Plumbing *Mark Bowman *carries Viessmann and Munchkin *they suck and are not recommended since they flaked on doing work as time and material Cascade Boiler Service Lake Oswego Insulation *asbestos abatement *Ken Brien ===== Radiant Heating ===== *Warmup Radiant Heating - http://www.warmup.com *http://www.radiantec.com *http://www.radiantmax.com *http://www.appliedradiant.com *plywood underlayment w/tubing grooves - http://www.warmboard.com *Raupanel - plywood radient underlayment panel *http://www.rehau.com/servlet/WYSPages004?&pg=construction_buildingxtechnology_radiantxheating_dryxpanelxsystemx&db=wys/us/rehauus.nsf&dt=& *http://www.radiantcompany.com ====== Plumbing ====== ===== DHW & Tankless ===== *argument for using electricity to heat instead of gas *http://tankless-water-heaters.com/gasvelectric.htm SETS *model 180 - 18Kw -http://www.e-tankless.com/products.php#180 *Questions: *heating elements - only 2 on 180 *water temp consistency *comparison to Seisco - differences in construction *tank capacity (1gal in Seisco) *UL requirements SEISCO *http://www.seisco.com/index.html *http://www.tankless-water-heaters.com/ *Questions: *model RA-22 *comparison to SETS Anti-scald valves *http://www.plumbingsupply.com/scald.html *http://www.state.in.us/isdh/regsvcs/saneng/plan_review/tmpcntrl.htm ===== PEX ===== *Vendor documentation *http://www.vanguardpipe.com/litlib.html *http://www.houseneeds.com *http://www.mvsupply.biz/ ===== Fixtures ===== *http://faucet.com *sink *http://www.berylceramics.com/frontend/proddetail.asp?pn=CTH801&co=10000330 ======= Natural Gas & Electricity ======= *http://www.centerpointenergy.com/houston/home/1,2668,101050,00.html?sub=Gas+Products+and+Services&stype=FYHGP ====== Paint & Finishing ====== *Metro Portland *503-234-3000 - info about color availability and prices * http://www.metro-region.org/paint *$3-$12/gallon: 15 colors in stock *Semolina, a Benjamin Moore Color (2155-40) *http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/main/archives/001753.html *IR Paint stripper *http://www.infraredheaters.com/ceramic.htm *http://www.oceanmanorhouse.com/paintremover.html ======= Paint Stripping ======= * infrared paint remover *http://www.silentpaintremover.com/ * [[removall]] 310 paint stripper - breaks mechanical bond b/w wood and paint * http://www.napiere.com/products/removall.htm ====== Insulation ====== [[airkrete]] *www.airkrete.com *Adam Platner of Tri-Cord Enterprises 503-640-9510 Cellulose *http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=calcBlownInsulation Attic *full attic 24.5' w x 40' l = 980 sq ft [$245 incentive] *attic w/o kitchen/bed 24.5' w x 26' l = 640 sq ft [$160 incentive] * R-49 x 640 sq ft = 15" depth *porch 24.5' w x 5.5' l = 135 sq ft * $.25/sq ft incentive to R-38 or more Wall *9' h x 40' l = 360 x 2 = 720 sq ft (E/W walls) *9' h x 24' l - (3' w x 7' h front door) = 195 sq ft (S wall) *915 * 0.83 (-17% for glazing) = 760 sq feet *$.30/sq ft incentive to R-11/fill cavity = $228 ===== Icynene ===== *S.C.
